Carpooling which also known as car-sharing, ride-sharing, lift-sharing is the shared use of a car by the driver and one or more passengers, usually for commuting to the office and back home. It is one of the most innnovative ideas that orginated in US in the late 1970’s. Carpoolers use pool member's private cars, or a jointly hired vehicle, for private shared journeys.

Carpooling has severeral benefits like reducing the cost involved in reptetive or long long distance driving by sharing cars, saving the consumption of fuel, reducing the pollution levels and most important is reducing the travel congestion on the road. In a Global perspective , Carpooling helps in the reduction of emission of Green house gases.

GTECH and Palnar Transmedia have taken this initiative under the Green computing initiative to reduce the carbon foot print of the IT Industry in Kerala.
